Singapore starts land reclamation for phase 2 Tuas mega port

SINGAPORE has begun the land reclamation for its Tuas Next Generation Port Phase 2 with the installation of the first giant concrete caisson. A total of 227 caissons will be fabricated onsite, same as for the first phase of the terminal development works.

Phase 2 will add 21 million TEU to the mega port's capacity, which is being built to handle all Singapore container operations by 2040 with a total capacity of 65 million TEU, reported Seatrade Maritime News of Colchester, Essex.

Senior Transport Minister Lam Pin Min, who witnessed the start of the works, said: "The installation of the first caisson for phase two marks an important milestone in the development of the next-generation port at Tuas. Tuas terminal will be digitalised and smart, and integrated with the wider supply chain network. This will be key to maintaining our position as a leading global hub port."

Penta-Ocean Construction Co./Hyundai Engineering & Construction and Boskalis International BV (PHB) joint venture are carrying out the phase two land reclamation project.
